The Blurb: March 2009
Earth Hour 8.30 to 9.30 Saturday
Friday 27 March 2009 11.16 pm

Earth Hour - when, wherever we are on Planet Earth, according to the website, we are encouraged to switch off our 100W lights for one hour ... and switch on our camcorder and 300W computer to video and blog the event. Mmm, I love contradictions. :O)
Actually, I do see the point, and it sounds quite fun. I wonder what the other guests at the dinner party I'm attending will think when I plunge them into darkness at 8.30 pm? We'll just have dinner by candle-light, I guess. It's been done before...
In other news, all the major world leaders are coming to London next Wednesday, and I'm wondering whether I can actually catch a glimpse of His Holiness - er, I mean, President - Barack Obama. Probably not, but it might be worth a go.

Rising flapjack prices
Monday 16 March 2009 11.08 pm

The stocks started falling, and I wasn't bothered, because I don't hold any stocks. The interest rates plunged, and that was a non-event for me because I have no mortgage and relatively little in savings. People lost their jobs, and I feel for them but I knew my job wasn't particularly endangered - not with what I get paid. I didn't even really notice the rising food prices, until one day, things got nasty.
I have been in the habit of purchasing Cadbury's flapjacks. Don't ask me why I have become hooked on this particular item, but I have. The news that Cadbury's chocolate is all to be fairtrade from this summer is more than joyous - it is incredible!
But flapjacks have been getting more expensive. Just a few short weeks ago you could buy a Cadbury's flapjack for 75p. Now it's 90p - a 16% rise since Christmas. Finally, the recession has had an effect on me. Ouch.

Where God Is
Wednesday 4 March 2009 8.55 am

God is big. But he's also invisible, which makes finding him quite difficult sometimes. So to ease this confusion, I've been trying to work out where God actually is, based on where people look when they pray. It turns out he's either in the roof, in the floor, or in Sainsbury's.
I gave my first "proper" talk on Monday this week, and it went really well. It was at the Ascension Alpha course, and it was on the subject of prayer. This cartoon was (naturally) an integral part of the talk.
