The Blurb: September 2007
My brother is a world record holder
Sunday 30 September 2007 1.27 pm

At 6.00 this morning I received a text from my brother Sam's girlfriend Poppy confirming the news. The record had been broken, with three hours to spare! And now, with the attempt over, the new Guinness World Record for the longest distance unicycled in 24 hours is 282 miles (450 km), set by Sam Wakeling.
Congratulations to him and all the witnesses who watched through the night as a crazy unicyclist went round and round an athletics track near Aberystwyth.
Christian Aid is sitting pretty too, with £1,000 worth of sponsorship money to spend. So there we go.
Update: See the BBC News story here and the story in The Times!

The 24 hour Unicycling Record
Friday 21 September 2007 1.52 pm

My brother, on 29 September, is to attempt a Guinness World Record! Verified by official witnesses at all hours of the night, and sponsored in aid of Christian Aid, he will attempt to break the record for the longest distance covered in 24 hours on a unicycle. The record currently stands at 235.3 miles, and the current record holder has given Sam some tips (seriously)!
To answer the most frequently asked question, Sam can dismount - after all, any time he spends off the unicycle will simply reduce the distance he can cover. The current record includes about three hours of breaks, apparently.
For more information see www.redwelly.co.uk or to sponsor Sam, go to his JustGiving sponsor page.

Duty Point

This is Duty Point. Or rather, this is Clare's and my feet hanging off Duty Point. Duty Point is a very beautiful headland on the Lee Abbey estate with views both ways along the coast and across to Wales. It is accessed exclusively by a rather overgrown, disused and decidedly unofficial footpath, which makes it all the more exciting.
I like Duty Point. :o)
